![]() ![]() The display of the incoming clock rate is just a convenience based on a running average this not appearing stable does not (contrary to what many people say) necessarily mean you have a problem (nor is it necessarily not a problem), often it relates to the number of decimal places they are showing being too long and/or the averaging window being too short. The devices receiving the clock either uses the ticks to trigger events directly or use some sort of running average to infer tempo then phase lock the internal clock to that. Every midi signal has jitter (but the best case is microsecond range). Jitter is something specific: your playback being consistently off after the first beat isn't a sign of jitter. Similarly adding latency in the form of extra USB connectivity doesn't help you in getting precise timing a dedicated midi interface has the benefit of having consistent timing between all ports, vs separate USB connected synths in either case delay compensation can correct for this on playback: this really matters for realtime playing as long delays may necessitate adding latency to your live playing. If this doesn't describe your problem, then the ERM multi clock isn't the solution. This doesn't mean no latency, and you may still need latency compensation when you record, but it gives the possibility of extremely accurate (and consistent) timing coherence between external sequencers and your DAW. Your audio interface's input and output ports have sample accurate timing consistency (note that aggregate audio devices don't) so this means you can get perfect synchronization between the DAW (when used as a source) clock and external sequencers. It does this by placing a plugin in your DAW which sends a tick via your audio interface to the multi clock. The purpose of the multi clock is to allow devices which are sensitive to midi clock jitter (which isn't all of them) caused by USB polling induced latency, to remain synced. What problem are you trying to solve? In particular if your computer is sending MIDI and receiving audio back, your DAW can compensate for any latency.
